On this hill on August 16, 1863, the Cry of Capotillo was launched, the official start of the Dominican War of Restoration. From here, patriots began the conflict that would return sovereignty to the country.
August 16 is now Restoration Day, a national holiday in the DR. Capotillo is one of the most sacred places in the national history.
